Methicillin-Sensitive Staphylococcus aureus as a Cause of Lemierre’s Syndrome
Abstract: The Lemierre’s syndrome (coexistence of oropharingeal infection, septic thrombophlebitis of the internal jugular vein and septic embolisms), rarely can be caused by Staphylococcus methicillin sensitive, showing a great virulence because of their capacity to produce a toxin called “Panton-Valentine Leukocidin”. We present the case of a patient who was admitted to our ICU with a clinical picture of septic shock secondary to this syndrome, in which this pathogen was found as the etiologic agent.
