Aims & Scope
Basically, the rock and rock-like materials such as concrete and soil are considered as geomaterials. Clays and some other materials which can be related with engineering processes can, also, be included in this category. Geomaterials are essential for life since human construct storage and access/transport areas in rock and mine for raw material. Essential material in mining processes is rock or geomaterials. Drilling, blasting, excavation and rock support processes rely on largely on physical and mechanical properties of rock. Additionally, quarrying and machining processes of natural stone depends in a greater extent to the physical and mechanical properties of natural stone. In mineral processing operations rock physical and mechanical properties of rock are important parameters at various stages such as size reduction or grinding. Soil and concrete are also important geomaterials. Concrete when used together with the rock structures, as support or lining element affects the behavior of the system constructed. The response of soil depending on the engineering attempts is a broad research and application area.
Mechanical excavation in mining and tunneling, drilling, blasting, sawing, abrasive water jet cutting, other micromachining methods and grinding are the potential engineering efforts in geomaterials. Aim of this journal is, thus, to publish research on geomaterials. Types of work which will be accepted are summarized below.
· 3d modelling of ore bodies.
· Blasting performance: Rock response to blasting, fragmentation quality, seismic loading, and effects of rock structural elements in wave transmission.
· Characterization of geomaterials: Experimental methods in determining physical and mechanical parameters of geomaterials.
· Dampening and permeability properties: Seismic wave dampening characteristics, fluid, gas and radiation flow or emitting behavior of geomaterials.
· Mine mechanization.
· Mining/extraction of geomaterials/minerals.
· Modeling the behavior of geomaterials: results of the efforts behavior or response of geomaterials using statistical, mathematical and numerical methods.
· Monitoring behavior: Methods and equipment to monitor behavior of geomaterials.
· Results of the experimental and industrial applications: Applications focused on behavior of geomaterials.
· Size reduction: Characteristics and response to grinding effects, mechanism of processes.
· Soil behavior: Characteristics and response of soil related with the engineering processes.
· Wear and cutting behavior of geomaterials: The mechanism in drilling, cutting and sawing processes need extended work to explain the response of geomaterials to mechanical effect. Drilling, mechanical excavation, sawing and abrasive water jet machining are in the primary concern in that sense.
This journal is intended to be open for papers accepted for rock and soil mechanics journals (for example Int, J, of Rock Mechanics) and materials journals (J. of Materials Processing Technology). The journals on materials characterization and on related issues are not open to geomaterials. Rock and soil mechanics journals, on the other hand, are generally, weak in publishing papers condensed on the issues related mainly on materials properties of geomaterials. Also, rock, concrete and soil are considered as a special material group which may attract a broader audience perspective. Also, the papers related with both characterization and mechanical applications (drilling, sawing etc) can be accepted. Competing journals: Materials and Design, Journal of Materials Processing Technology, Wear, Int. Journal of Rock Mechanics, Rock Mechanics, Tunneling and Underground Spaces.
